Research shows that the consumption of certain foods has a greater role in women’s sexual health.
“A woman’s overall health plays a large role in her sexual well-being and can positively influence the conditions she may suffer in the bedroom. Sensual and pleasurable experiences such as certain foods should be considered before sex,” says Misti Gueron, M.S., RD, medical nutritional therapist at the Khalili Center.

“Yogurt is full of probiotics for a healthy gut, and research shows it can help prevent yeast infections, especially with the use of antibiotics,” says Susan B. Dopart, M.S., RD, CDE, author of “A Recipe for Life.”
Plain (unflavored) yogurt is better than sweetened yogurt because the sugar feeds candida (yeast infection) and exacerbates the problem.
Daily consumption of lactobacillus acidophilus, the beneficial bacteria found in yogurt that says “live active cultures” on the label, or taking a probiotic supplement can help your body maintain its natural balance of healthy bacteria and minimize these painful occurrences.

The hormone estrogen helps maintain the clear fluid that lubricates the vaginal walls. For women there are some foods (such as soy products) that are rich in phytoestrogens that can help relieve some of these bothersome symptoms.
“Soy products such as tofu, edamame, soy milk and soy cheese and soy-based vegan meat contain plant chemicals called phytoestrogens, and these can actually mimic our body’s natural circulating estrogen,” says Misti Gueron, M.S., RD.
4. Drink WaterAt least 60 percent of women are at risk of developing a urinary tract infection (UTI). Drinking water every day and after sex is one of the best ways to avoid a UTI.
“Many women don’t drink enough water to flush their reproductive system of accumulated bacteria, especially in the urinary system. Drinking eight to 10 glasses of water daily will minimize the risk of bacterial infection before it spreads,” says Misti Gueron, M.S., RD.
5. Green leafy vegetables
Good sources of magnesium include green leafy vegetables (such as spinach, kale and collard greens), nuts and seeds, avocados, bananas and fish.
Magnesium has also been shown to help relieve spasms of blood vessels associated with migraine headaches.
6. Almonds“The key ingredient for keeping the vagina moist during times of hormonal change appears to be consuming adequate amounts of vitamin E, either from supplements or from food.” said Misti Gueron, M.S. RD.
Foods rich in vitamin E include almonds, wheat germ and wheat germ oil, sunflower seeds, dark green leafy vegetables and avocados.
7. Dark Chocolate
Giving a woman a box of chocolates has long been a romantic gesture, but it might help her sex drive.
Dark chocolate contains theobromine, a substance that makes you feel stimulated and energized. Dark chocolate also contains L-arginine, an amino acid that increases nitric oxide and increases blood flow to the sexual organs, which enhances sensation. Third, chocolate contains phenylethylamine (PEA), a “feel good” chemical that releases dopamine, a brain chemical also released during orgasm.
